Celebrating Australian Books with Australia Reads

Did you know reading a bedtime story 6 days a week can put kids almost a year ahead in schools? Australian Reading Hour aims to promote reading and literacy. Australia Reads is supported by schools, libraries, government and community groups and their partners. To participate in Australian Reading Hour, you just need to pick up an Australian book this Thursday November 12th = and read for an hour!

There are many benefits of reading! These include:

There are many wonderful Australian authors and books. Some of our favourite are: Possum Magic by Mem Fox, The Adventure of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie by May Gibbs, Magic Beach by Allison Lester, Our Home, Our Heartbeat by Adam Briggs and The Rainbow Serpent by Dick Roughsey.

Our resource libraries has great Australian books available to loan for Pyjama Angels to read with their children. Local council libraries also have a great range of books for children, tweens, teens and adults, so why not pick up an a book and read for an hour this Thursday?

Australia Reading Hour also happens to occur in NAIDOC Week 2020. We are taking this opportunity to do some reading about First Nations people, culture and the true history of the land we live on. Visit our NAIDOC Week 2020 Blog Post to learn more.

Australia Reads also have great resources on their website.
