Brighten the lives of foster children this Christmas

Let us tell you the heartbreaking yet empowering story of Kiarna…

Kiarna was placed into foster care when she was 5. Life for Kiarna as a 5 year old was was unstable, chaotic and confusing. Her mother struggled with bipolar disorder and could not give her the attention and care she craved and needed.

When she turned 11, her mother passed away from a drug overdose and her father abandoned her. Sadly, this is not an uncommon story for children in care. This lead to learning difficulties and mental health issues for Kiarna as a teenager.

But Kiarna’s life changed when her “Pyjama Angel” mentor was sent to her from The Pyjama Foundation. Dianne was a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen to, and a constant friend she could count on. She helped instill a love of learning, and helped Kiarna to build confidence and resilience in herself.

Now, Kiarna wants to give back and help other children in care to achieve their dreams. She has now trained to become a Pyjama Angel herself and wants others to know-

“The work of The Pyjama Foundation is necessary, insanely necessary. I strongly believe I wouldn’t be as strong as an advocate for myself without having had one.”

With your gift this Christmas, we can recruit, screen, train and match 45 Pyjama Angels and place them with children who are desperately waiting for their arrival. Help us reach our goal of raising $45,000 by 25 December 2020.

Your donation will make a world of difference. Just like it did for Kiarna.

Give the gift of Education

Christmas is meant to be a time of happiness.

A time to enjoy the company of our loved ones and to celebrate all we have.  For children in care however, Christmas can be a time that brings back memories of trauma and neglect, memories that can completely ruin the joy of the festive season.

With your help this Christmas, we can support more vulnerable children and their hard-working foster carers by bringing a Pyjama Angel into their homes and lives. A Pyjama Angel’s mission is to instil a love of learning, empower kids to reach their full potential, and most importantly, offer support, love and companionship when it matters most.

Give the gift of an Angel

This Christmas, instead of a gift, you could help change the life direction of a child in foster care.

Donate to The Pyjama Foundation this Christmas on behalf of a friend or family and help us give the gift of education to a child in the foster care system.

All donations of $50 and above, we will send your loved one a luxe bauble with the words ‘hope’ or ‘dream’ engraved, along with a personalised message from you.

Alternatively, we can you a gift certificate with their name.

Why we need your help

Studies have shown us that children and young people living in out-of-home care are at higher risk of experiencing extreme disadvantage including socio-economic disadvantage, trauma, and poorer mental and physical health compared to the general population.

Many suffer from low self-esteem, low self-efficacy, behavioural and emotional problems, as well as difficulty bonding with others. Without support and intervention, these outcomes are likely to continue into adulthood.

Our Pyjama Angels are very special individuals who give their time and love to children who so desperately need it. The main purpose for Pyjama Angels are to empower children in care with learning, life skills and confidence so they can achieve their goals.

Whilst our Pyjama Angels are selfless, volunteering their time and their love to children who truly need it, there is still a significant financial cost to making this possible.

There is major cost to our Foundation to recruit, screen, train and support each of these life-changing Pyjama Angels. It costs The Pyjama Foundation $1000 to be able to recruit, screen, train and match a volunteer Pyjama Angel.

All funds raised during our Christmas Appeal will go towards gifting children in care their own special Pyjama Angel who they have been desperately waiting for.

Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists  they become the best they can possibly be.
