MAKING MATHS FUN! NUMBER GAMES FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES

“Fun” is not always the first word kids think of when it comes to maths. However, having an understanding of numbers and basic numerical concepts are essential for children’s success in school. To help boost children’s engagement in areas such as summation, recognition, spatial awareness and counting, we have put together a list of fun games that children can play to practice these maths concepts in an interesting way. The games have been categorised by age to help select which activity suits your child best – but keep in mind these are just a guide and most activities can be enjoyed by children of any age!

AGES 5 -7

COUNTING WITH CARDS

This activity focuses on learning to count, identify and order numbers in an engaging and enjoyable way.

POPSICLE STICK PUZZLES

This puzzle activity is a great way for kids to practice number recognition, problem solving and improve fine motor skills. All you need is popsicle sticks and a pen!

PAINT AND COUNT

This fun activity combines maths and art to help kids practice number recognition and one-to-one correspondence. To extend learning, encourage your child to count the numbers out loud as they stamp!

AGES 8 – 10


BASKETBALL MATHS

Combine physical and mental agility in the action-packed game! Children are asked a maths question and can shoot a basket when they answer correctly.

ESTIMATION STATION

Fill a jar with any household items and challenge your child with this fun estimation game. Kids will have to use reasoning, spacial knowledge and estimation to guess how many of the item is actually in the jar.

ROLL AND GRAPH GAME

This activity helps kids practice a variety of skills including counting, number comparison, handwriting and an introduction to probability.  All you need is a dice, pen and paper.

AGES 11 – 13

MULTIPLICATION BINGO

Practice multiplication with this take on a classic game of bingo. Call out a times table for kids to solve and check off their sheet. The first player to have five correct answers in a row wins – bingo!

MAKE 10 CARD GAME

This activity is a fun and simple way to introduce maths into playing cards. Kids can practice addition and solving problems under time pressure.
