National Pyjama Day is back and bigger than ever! This year National Pyjama Day is on the 22nd of July. National Pyjama Day is an awesome event where you can join us in our mission to support the educational and life outcomes of kids living in foster care. And what makes it all the more fun is you can rock your favourite PJs while you do it!
Let’s take a look at why National Pyjama Day started…
Did you know that 92% of children in care have below average reading skills by the time they are 7 years of age, and it can be hard for them to catch up to their peers?
Founded in 2004, The Pyjama Foundation’s goal is to provide children in foster care with support for learning, life skills and confidence. We aim to address the poor physical health, socio-emotional wellbeing and learning outcomes of kids in care.
So how do we support little kids with big dreams? We run the Love of Learning Program that connects kids in need with our wonderful volunteers, ‘Pyjama Angels’. Currently the Love of Learning Program is the only service of its type supporting children in care with evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs in the out-of-school environment. We have over 1440 children who are supported through our program each week. Through the last year of our Love of Learning program, we trained 949 Pyjama Angels, and read over 101,000 books to children. Want more info? Check out our about us section!
