No one should ever have to experience that, but Charlie did. When he was not even 5 minutes old.
Everything in life was against Charlie from the moment he was born. Charlie’s mother was unable to take care of him and left him in the hospital. He was 14 weeks premature, sick, and alone. Sadly, his story is not unique.
Someone special changed the course of Charlie’s life that day. Maria was Charlie’s midwife in the hospital and seeing him alone and unwell broke her heart, so she took him under her wing and decided to give him a home. 18 years later, Maria is Charlie’s foster mum and a real-life Angel.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, and the Foundation is grateful to be a part of Charlie’s.
Charlie was only 3 years old when he met another real-life angel, his Pyjama Angel Renee. Renee helped Charlie focus on his education – and more importantly, she boosted his confidence and his self-esteem.
These children enter the foster care system burdened by feelings of anger, resentment, and pain. If children in care don’t receive the support like Charlie, many end up homeless, in jail, and unemployed.

Over the 15-year period Charlie has had the support of three different amazing Pyjama Angel mentors. They’ve all played their own part in mentoring and empowering Charlie; helping to shape the person he is today.
Charlie is the only person in his family to complete high school. Sadly, many of his biological family had no support. They all had a very unstable education or have had links with the juvenile justice system.
Charlie knew he wanted to be more than a statistic. He wanted to create change. He wants to make a difference and dreams of supporting vulnerable kids, just like himself. Charlie is now in university, studying to become a social worker.
