March marks Donor Recognition Month here at The Pyjama Foundation, also known as Thankathon! It's a month dedicated to showing our amazing supporters just how grateful we are for their generosity. So, we're spotlighting some incredible people who are making an impact on our blog this month.
Without further ado, meet the remarkable siblings, Ben and Ash who accomplished the extraordinary feat of climbing to Mount Everest Base Camp in November 2024!
Ben and Ash's journey wasn't just about reaching new heights, their climb was driven by a deep passion for social justice. The siblings decided to use their adventure to raise funds for children in foster care. Their incredible efforts paid off as they not only reached the base of Mount Everest but also raised an impressive $5,974 for The Pyjama Foundation.
Ben and Ash's commitment to social justice is truly inspiring. Despite their amazing accomplishment, reaching the base camp of Mount Everest was not the highlight of their adventure. For Ben, the true driving force behind his journey was the incredible support from those who donated to their cause.
"Surprisingly, reaching base camp was not the highlight [of the trip]. I was motivated by the people who donated to my cause. Thinking about them, and the support they put behind me was a huge driving factor for me. I knew that regardless of whether I made it to base camp or not, we had still raised more than double the limit I had set. That being said, I did not want to let them down. So when I finally made it to base camp, I smiled not because I was at the end; but because I was looking forward to telling them we did it," Ben shared.
To maximise their fundraising efforts, Ben collaborated with his gym and organised a unique workout event where members came in wearing their pyjamas! This creative idea raised funds and brought the community together in a fun and meaningful way.
"If you are interested in taking on an adventure, it is so easy to do it for a good cause. You can achieve a realistic goal and help others at the same time," Ben shared. Ben and Ash’s story shows that with a bit of creativity and a big heart, anyone can turn their dreams into a meaningful force for good.
"Together, we can hopefully change the path these children are on for the better," Ben shared.
Whether it's climbing a mountain, running a marathon, or organising a community event, there are countless ways to make a difference while pursuing something you love.
We are beyond grateful to have had Ben and Ash's support on their climb. And our hearts are warmed by this beautiful community of people (you reading this included!) who feel inclined to join us in empowering children in foster care.
